Strong Faith is a Commitment to Deep Roots

faith flourishing life rooted

Are you experiencing some waves and hot weather in your life right now?

You can stay firm with strong faith when have deep roots in God's Word.

And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7

Let your roots grow down into him. . .

Roots in God's Word speaks of YOU becoming thoroughly grounded.

Think about roots for a minute: the root is the anchor of the plant and holds the plant to the ground.

I love to grow tomatoes and I have learned that if I plant them deep, they add more roots to stems and it will bring more stability to the plant. When I am ready to plant my tomato seedling into the garden it is about 10-inches tall. I snip off all the lower stems and plant deep, so that a full 2/3 of the plant is underground; all but the top 3 to 4 inches is buried.

Why? Because the plant will have a better, stronger root system. Better roots mean better tomatoes.

I know, I know.

This goes against everything you’ve ever heard about “don’t plant too deep or you’ll kill the plant.”

Tomatoes break that rule because they actually have the ability to sprout additional roots along the buried stem. These extra roots strengthen the plant so that it can support more fruit and is better able to survive hot weather.

Surviving hot weather is exactly what my tomato plant have needed this summer. And they are flourishing.

Thriving in Hot Weather

Hot weather and storms will come into your life. To stand strong you need your roots planted deep into God's Word.

2 Things to remember if you want to grow strong roots:

  1. You cannot depend on your own intelligence for wisdom and knowledge. Your spiritual wealth and spiritual growth is in him.
  2. You need to be disciplined in the Word of God. Wisdom and knowledge for right living are treasures that need to be discovered!

For our spiritual wealth is in Christ, like hidden treasure waiting to be discovered—heaven’s wisdom and endless riches of revelation knowledge.

Colossians 2:3 TPT

Heaven’s wisdom and knowledge for living is found by growing deep roots – just like a plant sends roots deep, seeking out the mineral and bacterial activity that is in the soil.

Commit to Being a Discover!

Discover the hidden treasures of God's Word by reading, meditating, praying, listening to the Holy Spirit, your teacher.

Remember: The Word – your Bible – from Genesis to Revelation is God’s supernatural intervention with people.

  • You learn God’s ways through his Word.
  • You learn how to walk and conduct your life – so you bring Him glory and are a  blessing to others.

Ultimately, if you are seeking to be deeply rooted, you must understand that it is a commitment to God and your faith.

This is not the easy way out.

            Discipline is never easy.

            This is a commitment.

But it’s worth it because you need a deep root system to stand firm, so you can withstand the elements, trials, and challenges of life.

Deep roots in God’s Word keeps you strong.
