A Better Word - Refuting the Lies Spoken to You

faith

There are words being spoken to you that bring life, and others spoken that bring death.

Words of life come from the Holy Spirit, the heart of God, and the blood of Jesus.

Words of death come straight from the enemy of our souls – the devil.

You have come to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

Hebrews 12:24 NIV

Cain was the first-born son of Adam and Eve. He was jealous of his brother Abel and grew angry when God didn’t accept his offering. God told him he had the opportunity to give an acceptable offering and warned him of a lying enemy ready to deceive him.

“Why are you so angry?” the Lord asked Cain. “Why do you look so dejected? You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.”

Genesis 4:6-7 NLT

Cain believed the lie of the Satan and lured Abel out to the field and killed him. When God asked Cain where Abel was - Cain denied knowing; I don’t know, am I my brother’s keeper?

The Lord said, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s [innocent] blood is crying out to Me from the ground [for justice].

Genesis 4:10 AMP

Lies Leads to Death

The Gospel of John describes Satan’s true character: a murderer from the beginning, and a master liar. Lying is consistent with his character; he is only doing what is natural for him to do.

Genesis tells us how Satan’s lies caused Adam and Eve to fall and Cain to kill Abel. He hasn’t changed his tune today. He is trying to feed you lies about yourself, about others, and about God.

Fatigue. Anxiety. Stress. Temptation. Fear. Despair. Revenge. Worry.

This is just the short list of lies the devil is whispering (and sometimes shouting) in your ear. He has plenty more lies and he’s using them on you. Unfortunately, they are working really well.

But no more.

You have come to Jesus – and his blood speaks a better word.

Words of Life

The Word of God tells us over and over that the enemy has no true leg to stand on. He has already been defeated and we are overcomers.

Because God’s children are human beings—made of flesh and blood—the Son also became flesh and blood. For only as a human being could he die, and only by dying could he break the power of the devil, who had the power of death.
Hebrews 2:14 NLT

You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins. He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.
Colossians 2:13-15 NLT

And we have come to Jesus who established a new covenant with his blood sprinkled upon the mercy seat; blood that continues to speak from heaven, “forgiveness,” a better message than Abel’s blood that cries from the earth, “justice. Hebrews 12:24 TPT

His blood speaks forgiveness and so much more:

  • Wholeness and Healing in my body, soul, and spirit. Isaiah 53:3-5
  • Crowned with love and mercy, satisfied with good things, free to soar again with strength, beauty, and restoration. Psalm 103:1-5
  • Loved, chosen, adopted, freedom, grace, wisdom, understanding. Ephesians 1

Receive a Better Word

Don’t stay stuck in the lies of the enemy. There is a better word spoken to you and it will bring life, peace, and health.

Take a few moments and identify the lie has the enemy been shouting at you?

Now receive the better word – the TRUTH – that God’s Word speaks to you. The better word that comes because Jesus’ blood conquered the enemy and broke the chains of sin and death in your life.

If you don’t know how to find the Truth – a verse in the Bible to proclaim - try these steps:

  1. Identify the lie you are hearing. Example: Nobody cares.
  2. Do a search in your browser “God cares for you Bible verse
  3. You will find many sites that have Bible verses for you to proclaim over your life.

You know when I sit down and when I get up. You understand my thoughts from far away. You look over my path and my lying down. You know all my ways very well. Your thoughts are of great worth to me, O God. How many there are! If I could number them, there would be more than the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.

Psalm 139:2-3, 17-18
