As a parent there are many times I have given my daughter a list of things to do and in the middle of it gave the most important detail of all. For example, during a recent road trip my daughter was taking I gave details of car safety, instruments lights, no cell phone use, good places for fuel and food, and staying within the speed limit.
Tucked in the middle of my to-do list was the most important. “Remember honey, NO touching your cell phone – absolutely no reading texts or placing calls!
Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony.Colossians 3:14
Paul is doing the same thing as he instructs the church on living a holy life. In Colossians 3:12-17 he gives a list of virtues that mark true spiritual maturity:
- tenderhearted mercy
- humility & gentleness
- ruling peace
- a thankful song
- an authentic life
And tucked in the middle of those virtues is LOVE which ties all of them together and brings harmony, maturity, and a flourishing life.
For love is supreme and must flow through each of these virtues. Love becomes the mark of true maturity.Colossians 3:14 TPT
As you work through this Reading Plan I am praying that you allow love to grow and rule in your life. The Holy Spirit will be your teacher and will lead you to find practical, life-giving ways to express God’s love.
